Keyframing

Keyframing is a clip to be scaled to fill the screen exactly five seconds into your project. When you set more than one keyframe, Motion generates the in-between frames, resulting in a smooth change of that parameter over time

e.g. of keyframing:

Pleasantville effect

You can create the pleasantville effect using the 'color corrector 3-way' filter to select
the main color you want to select.

The first thing to find a clip that has an object with a particular color that you would like to change into (black and white) clip

Speed Ramp Effect

Ease Keyframes AE

Find a clip with some action that you’d like to use. Then find a place you would like to edit where you want to speed up & slow motion
for example this link shows of action part where the slow motion comes in the air and continue to speed up.

Essay on the history principles and development of editing.

4.6 Research and write a 1000 word essay on the history principles and development of editing.

The history of the film has had many changes up until today, which means that editing styles have changed. Film started with no editing at all.  The history principles and development has way improved because principles were used to make the audience emotional think about the film. The purpose of editing is to improve the bad things from the footages and editing more things into the action story. Editing can really help impact the mood of the story to the audience also video footages can entertain and interest the audience to grab the views attention by putting clips together and turn them into story.

These are the films that are edited in the past and putting more focus into it e.g.
·      Psycho (1960)
·      The Birds (1963)
·      Bonnie & Clyde (1967)
·      The French connection (1971)
·      Rocky (1976)
·      Star Wars (1977)
·      Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981)

Editing has developed over time the history of the films has had changes up until today Editing now can slow time, speed up time, scare us, makes us laugh also there’s sad moments. Cutting has improved in the past because in the past cutting weren’t used as much in the past at all. Editing has much developed in time because also now can speed up e.g. fast and furious were everything move slowly and some parts of the film which the race goes fast and all the focus goes on the narrative on the subject that is ‘close up’ to focus on they emotional and feelings. Movies become more business in 1930. Editing also went on to add colors to films because in the past it was black and white films.

The first film editor was D.W Griffiths he was the first person to think of different camera shots angles. He used different specific techniques. D.W Griffiths trailer of the film birth of nation shows the different shots he used. He also invented the use of various shots including close up, when these were first brought into films people did not understand the use of these shots as they had came to the cinema to watch full people and open shots so they were not happy that they had paid just to see someone face.

The filmmakers started to realize that the use of different shots could make the audience react in certain ways, by using flash back to show previous happening, which would keep the audience to think about it and have insight into the film.

“The film L'Arrivée d'un train à la Ciotat by the Lumière brothers was one of the first films, which as you can see was shot in one angle. When the film first came out people who went to view it who had no experience of film and knew nothing about it were scared as they thought the train was actually coming towards them.” This can be very scary and funny because it scared the audience the shot took one place, which can be boring to watch.
“Film has been around since the early 1800’s, in the first films that were made there was no editing involved at all and were normally just shot from one angle and would be around a minute long. If we looked back into the first films that were made we would find them very simple. The first type of editing I have came across was essentially in camera editing where the operator would stop the camera for a brief moment so that they could move to a different shot or to move something into the shot, This type of interruption wouldn’t leave a mark or cause any damage to the nitrate film stock, this process was called resumption.” So many different shots angles used by now e.g. wide shot, 2 shot which shows 2 characters, single shots, long shots
Long shot this type of shot shows the entire location where the action took place is happening and what is the person doing. It’s often used at the start of the scene. Fade one shot slowly replaces the other, so that both are temporarily presenting in the screen it normally create softer cut usually it shows the relationship between the two characters in two images e.g. one character is thinking about the other
Eye line match are used too the eye line between two characters matches e.g. they are staring at each other you can see by the eye line matching, close up shot on a character which shows there emotion and enables the audience to feel more intimate with the character therefore more involved the story.

From my primary research I found out that in the old superman in the 1978 the cameras weren’t smooth enough than now e.g. man of steel from 2013 HD has been used jump cut in some clips and the music sound old also the editing was way improved if we compare them both together to 1978. The different are sound, effects, cuts, music also the man of steel 2013 looks more realistic than 1978. The man of steel they used different shots flash back to help the audience to flash back with the story.
From my qualitative research we made question to ask what other people think and give us some ideas and the result was that more people think remade movies in the future will be better than now because the improvement that are used will help the technology in the future.

Chroma key:

                Green chromakey is used because:
Video and digital cameras are more sensitive to green with less noise making it easier to generate a cleaner mask.
Green screen requires less light
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a21_WMiTAVE

I used this example because it shows clearly how green screen which is Chroma key is used in the industry, films use Chroma key a lot in certain action parts.

Clonning

Clones are organisms that are exact genetic copies. Every single bit of their DNA is identical.
Clones can happen naturally in films. identical twins are just one of many examples movies use also they use clones for cars or houses in movies for e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdNsLMpfuTw

THE FIVE STAGES OF MEDIA PRODUCTION
Production Stage
Description

Development

The film always start out in the development stage. most films don’t get past development because the stage is always expensive filmmaking. Every movie get develope by editing and putting ideas into the project, any changes likely be made but the budget cost more.

Pre-Production

Pre-production is putting develop ideas and planning together to make the project more success done. This section give the project more overview of different steps to improve the stages of the project.

Physical Production

Physical production is important part because the actual production period is the most needed in the project, it cannot be done without the other phases.

Post-Production

Post-production is where all the areas of the film put together. such as motion graphics, special effect to the project, computer graphics also the like to create and fix the colors and make them appear more filmic.

Distribution

Distribution can cause problem for the film or the post-production because it might be showing in public, film markets also film festivals in an effort to find the distributor
This could filtering it through a company for the design of DVD release or simply making the contracts for a wide theatrical release.

Intro to editing

• What is editing?
looking at the story, pushing the story straight forward creating story

• What is Elliptical editing?
Elliptical editing makes screen time shorter than story time by cutting out unnecessary actions

• What is ‘non-diagetic sound’?
non diagetic sound means that the sound that are edited & diagetic sound means the
sound that is now happening e.g. background voices pen clicking and people speaking
in the class.

• How do we know she is bending down to pick up the ring? (what shots are used and why?)
eye line matching shows that there's something in the floor which is the ring.

Hustle
• Overhead establishing shot – what does this achieve?
how complicit the story is
• What is Shot-Reverse-Shot?
this mean cutting back & forward

• What is Eye-line matching?
The eye line matching shows the big man stand up looking off screen down and the man is sitting down looking up which shows that they talking to each other
• Why do we cut to the other members of the group?
so we can see they faces and they reaction to the plan.

• What is a wipe?
To move the action in different time & to show the building and different sight

• What is the effect of using quick cuts?
To work quickly and make the story move along with quick cuts

b) Now watch ‘Editing: The Invisible Art’ and take notes:
• How can editing build tension and pace?
by zooming in and looking at they face reaction of the character

• What is crosscutting?
from long shot to another to see the reaction of the character

• What are reaction shots?
the reaction shots are to see the reaction of the character from one to another

• What is seamless editing?

• What is a jump cut?
changing the shooting to cut from person to another to check the attention of the character

• What is a flash back and what does it achieve?
flash back to show what happened and the action of it

• How can editing be used poetically?

I like media because i enjoy editing also taking photos working on project with others
become more creative that's why i enjoy this course..
